The DC Operations Technician is responsible for the execution of all data centre operational activities, including the installation, maintenance, monitoring, updating and backing up of all server, storage and network resources at the global data centres.

They are responsible for ensuring all operational activities are delivered, managed and operated in accordance with Calligo defined controls and standards.

Job Title: DC Operations Technicians

Department: Cloud & Managed Services

Reports to: Global DC Operations Manager

Access Level: Engineer

Revision Date: December 2018

 

Key Duties

  • Manage the global data centres components and associated services, ensuring they are capable of delivering Calligo’s cloud service offerings to agreed service levels
  • Install server, storage and network infrastructure at all Data Centres
  • Execute routine maintenance, patching and upgrades of infrastructure components and management systems
  • Ensure all cloud service and infrastructure issues and alerts are managed and dealt with in a timely manner, escalating to Infrastructure Engineering and/or Vendor(s) where required
  • Ensure strict change and configuration management (including all documentation) across all sites and services
  • Ensure regular and effective communications with internal and external customers relating to incidents, problems, changes and maintenance
  • Identify and log recurring issues using the problem management procedure
  • Maintain and develop professional skill set
  • Support, mentor and knowledge share with other members of the team
  • Adhere to all applicable compliance framework disciplines

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Good communication skills both written and verbally
  • 3+ years technical experience gained in an internal IT team or within a consultancy
  • Industry recognised professional technical qualifications
  • Proven track record in support methodologies, e.g. ITIL.
  • Sound problem analysis skills and an ability to manage and deliver under pressure
  • Knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of VMware Infrastructure, with VCP certification desirable
  • Knowledge of networking, physical and/or software defined
  • Experience designing, installing, configuring and maintaining all types of server, storage and network hardware
